Description:

This  is a  "RARE"  Merwin, Hulbert & Company, Large Frame, Single Action, Nickel Plate revolver, chambered in .44 Winchester Center Fire (.44-40). According to Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms, 9th edition, regarding M&H; "Their revolvers, though, have been considered by some authorities the equal of Colts for quality and, in some certain features, perhaps superior... and deserving of the increasing popularity only recently acquired". The revolver debut in 1876, and was manufactured through the 1880's. For that time period, the firearms had a unusual, and very advanced operating procedure for clearing spent cartridges from the cylinder. With the hammer pulled back into the first safety notch, actuate the slide-lock on the bottom of the frame, in-front of the trigger assembly, and simply twist & pull the barrel and cylinder forward, ejecting the spent cartridges. Once the cylinder has been emptied, return the assembly back to position, and there is a slide-down loading gate on the right side of the revolver. Additionally, there is a spring loaded push-lever located on the left side of the frame, which when pushed inward, it will allow the cylinder to be removed for cleaning. In addition to the operating features for firearm use and maintenance, the revolver also  features such as the rare  "Mother of Pearl" grip panels that are in fantastic shape, fixed sights, a nickel plate finish, factory lanyard pass-through, "Skull Crusher" Birds head style grip.  and a 7" full round barrel. The firearm is marked in numerous locations, including; "Merwin Hulbert & Co. New York. U.S.A. Pat. Jan. 24. Apr. 21. Dec. 15.74. Aug. 3. 75. July 11. 76. Apr. 17. 77. Pat's Mar. 6. 77." on the top of the barrel, "The Hopkins & Allen Manufacturing Co. Norwich. Conn. U.S.A." on the left side of the barrel, "Calibre Winchester 1873" on the left side of the frame - Indicating this revolver is chambered for Winchester's famed Model 1873 lever action repeating rifle and carbine standard .44WCF caliber. The revolver also shows matching "8295" serial numbers on the right side butt of the pistols frame, on the back side of the cylinder, and on the hidden inside of the barrel. Overall, this revolver shows  beautiful  condition, with 85%+ finish to the nickel plate, with very minor peeling or flaking  around the muzzle and some on edges of the backstrap. As well, the revolver shows tight mechanics, which are perfectly functioning, perfect grips, absent of cracking, exceptional screw heads, dismantled only with appropriate tools over time, and the bore shows bright condition, with strong rifling. As it sits, this revolver may be considered one of the finest, Merwin, Hulbert Large Frame Single Action Revolvers available. This firearm was manufactured in the last quarter of the 1800's, and qualifies as an Antique firearm.Buyer pays  $20.00 shipping to the lower 48 states.  I accept USPS Money Orders or Bank Cashier's Check.
