SOLD Mass militia Marked contract musket with a 41/12" ong barrel of about .68 cal smooth bore with exterior metal as issued in the white with age staining but not rusted, looks like a Charlesville musket of the Rev.War with brass pan, and trumpet ram-rod. The action works well, and the front muzzle barrel band has a brass front blade sight, Overall it measures about almost 56:" long, and the stock is in very good condition and appears to be French Walnut? The flat on the side of the lock screws has a MS and a diamlond shaped proof of SF not anything I can identify. Often parts from differnt muskets left over from contracts were assembled by armories or gun makers and sold a militia muskets to the U.S. during and right after the Rev. War. The action works well, and there are no proofs on the barrel if a Eurpoean gun was exported out of Europe. Overal a clean unusual musket of early 1800's.When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
