Description:
1840s BORNHOLM DENMARK Jaeger Musket Smooth Bored Percussion .67 Antique

 With Sliding Ivory Patchbox!

Here we present an antique Danish Jaeger Musket by H.C. Almegaird, made on the isle of Bornholm, Denmark circa the early-19th Century. The lock is marked "BORNHOLM" and the top of the barrel "HG ALMEGAIRD". This gun was born a flintlock and later converted. Bornholm is an island belonging to Denmark in the Baltic Sea between Sweden, Poland, Germany and Denmark. Naturally, it has been fought over for centuries and variously belonged to Lübeck in the 16th Century, Sweden briefly in the 17th Century before Denmark. It was even held by the German Third Reich and used as a strategic post in the Baltic during World War II. Bornholm’s first militia was raised in the 17th Century and this may very well have been such a musket, being of military caliber and certainly serviceable as such. This is a very rare piece from such a small European island such as Bornholm and it would be fascinating to know where all this musket has been and how it came to the US.

This musket features rifle sights and a double set trigger. There is a sliding patchbox of ivory in the butt stock. The fore end is tipped in horn.

The overall condition is Very Good. The action is as strong as ever. The bore is smooth and in great shape. A very solid musket and what a piece of history!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 28-1/2 inches.
