Description:
This is a very nice all-original tang safety Ruger Model 77 Varmint in the sought after .22-250 caliber.  This handsome rifle displays excellent fit and finish that these early Model 77's are well known for.  The Ruger Model 77 Varmint was manufactured from 1968 until 1992, and quickly earned a reputation with shooters and hunters alike for being very reliable and extremely accurate.  This 77 Varmint model features a factory gloss-blue finish on all of the metal, a factory 24" inch heavy varmint profile barrel with no iron sights, integral scope bases in the reciever, a factory drilled and tapped barrel and receiver for target scope bases (Unertl), a polished bright bolt, a tang-mounted safety, an internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate, a factory adjustable trigger, and a checkered American Walnut pistol-grip stock with a pistol grip cap, sling swivel studs, and factory-installed red recoil pad.  This particular example is serial number 71-76577 and was manufactured in 1976.  It has been very lightly used but well cared-for.  The factory gloss blue finish is still in beautiful condition, showing only a few very minor handling marks on the barrel that are only visible under very close inspection.  The receiver looks like-new, as does the bolt handle.  The gloss black finish on the triggerguard and floorplate assembly is in excellent condition overall, also only showing some tiny little handling/storage marks.  All of the factory stampings are crisp and clear, including the early-style pre-warning barrel address. The bore in the 24" inch varmint profile barrel is mirror-bright and in excellent condition.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves throughout the barrel, and there is no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind.  The factory stock is in great shape overall, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage.  It shows some scattered minor safe rash/storage marks but no eyesores.  The worst of the safe rash is in the checkering panel on the right side of the pistol grip.  As you can see from the close-up picture provided it is nothing major and does not detract much from the clean overall look of the rifle.  All of the factory stock hardware is intact on this rifle, including the red Ruger-branded recoil pad.  The action on this Model 77 Varmint is slick, precise, and butter-smooth.  The bolt turns into battery perfectly with no grit or slop, and all of the controls are in perfect working order including the sought-after tang-mounted safety.  The factory adjustable trigger is excellent at it's current setting, breaking like a glass rod with a light pull.  We have no doubt that this rifle will shoot just as reliably and accurately today as the day it left the factory 44 years ago.  This Ruger comes with a set of medium-height 1" inch factory rings on it (these early guns require different height rings to be level, rear is high, front is medium).  If you have been looking for a classy vintage rifle to add to your collection, here is your chance to get one of the best varmint rifles that Ruger ever made in all-original condition.  Paired with a nice scope you could carry this rifle to any hunting camp or range in the world with a lot of pride.
