Made at Trenton Locomotive & Machine Works in 1864!
Here we present an antique Civil War Trenton Contract Model 1861 Percussion Rifle-Musket, produced in 1864 by J.T. Hodge and A.M. Burton at the Trenton Locomotive & Machine Works in Trenton, New Jersey. The Model 1861 was a nationally adopted musket and is considered the “everyman’s rifle-musket” during the American Civil War. This one was made in New Jersey and for New Jersey. It shows state inspection marks throughout and would have been issued to one of thousands of New Jerseyans in the state militia.
This musket is stamped with "N.J." on the left side of the barrel and left stock flat. There is a “20” stamped into the top of the comb just forward of the butt plate.
The overall condition is Good. The action is strong and tight. The bore is in good condition with nice rifling. The stock shows signs of handling throughout as any Civil War musket would.
