This is a rare Citori Hunter Grade VI featuring hand engraving. The Hunter Grade 6 was only hand engraved for two years, 1983 and 1984. All later production featured laser engraving. According to the serial number, this example was built in 1984. It features a straight, “English” grip rather than the more common semi-pistol grip. This grip style helps reduce the weight of the gun and many shooting experts consider it faster to use in field-shooting situations where the opportunity for a shot may come unexpectedly. The forend is the semi-beavertail type. The receiver is marked on the left side with the name of the engraver, M. Nozaki. His work is such that even at first glance one can surmise that he was a professional engraver of the highest skill. The barrel is 28 inches long and features a ventilated rib. Unlike most high-grade shotguns, this appears to have been used for its intended purpose to a limited extent rather than spending most of its time in a safe. It exhibits some light wear. The front tip of the comb has a slight ding in it and there are a few smaller dings on the right side of the stock. The forearm has three small dings on the bottom. Virtually all of these can be steamed out. For finish wear, the lower edges of the receiver, the forward bottom of the trigger guard, and the bottom tang have some loss due to handling of the gun. These could be touched up by a competent gunsmith. The only other spot of finish loss is underneath the safety, which is common to all over-under shotguns with the tang-mounted safety. The trigger has lost some of the gold coloring to it. The bore is in extremely good condition with no rust or pitting. Since it was made in 1984, the barrels are threaded for standard Invector chokes. The Hunter is currently equipped with an Improved cylinder choke in the over barrel and a Modified choke in the under-barrel. This is a high-quality shotgun and rather rare given the hand-engraving – it would make a nice addition to any Browning collection.
