Description:
Guys, this is the original rifle designed for the 458 Winchester Magnum back when it was introduced in 1960. This rifle has never been in the bush, either Alaska or Africa.
I am the second owner and have put 10 rounds of factory 500 grain bullets down the barrel. I don't believe that it was shot previously.
The gun is in like new condition, the bluing is as it was when it left the Winchester factory, likewise the stock which is a nice grade of dark American walnut., Check out the flush mounted rear sling mount (nice ).
With the Super Grade comes an upgraded walnut stock, special hand checkering, bright bluing, jeweled bolt, real ebony fore end, which only happened for a couple of years,and magazine floor plate, stating "Super Grade" in gold letters.From my research the gun was manufactured in 1972 and ithe next year Winchester dropped the Super Grade.
Like all Winchester 458 Win Magnums the barrel is a "Medium Heavy" 22 inch, sights are fixed with a hooded front sight. Everything including the buttpad is original. With one round in the chamber and 3 more in the magazine you should be in good shape for anything that might come your way.
As a note guys, I own three of these fine Winchester African models and this one if my favorite
Winchester stopped making the African model many years ago and these fine rifles are becoming hard to find.
Typically anyone that is looking for a big bore rifle, after shouldering an original model 70 African you will buy it , the gun just feels good.
