Description:
This navy sword belonged to Charles Wesley Hickernell. Hickernell attended Annapolis and was in the U.Navy from 1917 to  1923.  In December of 1917 he was assigned to the U.S.S. California He was discharged at the end of his enlistment in 1923. In !934 he was promoted to Liuetenant Commander.  In 1941 he joined the New York Naval Militia and retired in 1948 as a Captain. The Sword was supplied by J.A. Frederick Horr who was in business in Philadelphia from 1907 to 1930. Included with the sword is a DVD with much additional information including photos of the HIckernell homes in Nerwport R.I and Sarasota FL. The disc also contains his draft registration cards and other information. Hickernell was buried at Arlington Cemetary in 1963.
