Description:
"British Pattern 1809 Brown Bess flintlock musket. This musket has a unique story to it. A banknote comes with this musket and a story of how J.C. Hull traded a single shot shotgun for this Brown Bess in 1893 from a gentleman named Levi M. Gander. The note states how Mr. Gander’s father had used this Brown Bess at the Battle of Lundy Lane. The name “Capt Ganders rifles" is written at the rear of the butt stock. Research shows a Captain Jacob Gander who fought for the 3rd regiment of Lincoln militia, no records show this regiment fighting in the Battle of Lundy Lane. This 1809 Pattern Brown Bess is in overall really good condition. Metal is a gray patina, lock has crown over “GR" forward of the hammer. Behind the hammer is marked Tower. Stock is good, does show usage and handling wear. Two old repairs are noted on the left-side. We are sure that Captain Gander did own this 1809 Pattern Brown Bess at some point in his life.
