Musket was made by L. Pomeroy in 1838. Metal is fair overall with a smooth dark finish, loss of metal at the muzzle and an amazing amount of erosion around the nipple, to the point that some of its threads are exposed. This gun is not safe to shoot. The middle band is absent. The stock is good with wood loss to the front and rear of the nipple. The JH cartouche is easily seen. Acton functions correctly. This musket obviously saw extensive Civil War service. If it could only talk! This gun, because of it heavy use, could provide hours of conversation and speculation. We have never seen this much erosion on a gun, a statement to its extremely heavy use. SOLD Antique: Yes |
