VERY HANDSOME AND UNUSUAL BRASS FRAME ALLEN & THURBER. .50 CALIBER PERCUSSION HALF STOCK RIFLE REPRODUCTION MADE IN THE 1970s BY MOWREY GUN WORKS OF OLNEY, TEXAS. One of the best looking of the American made replicas, the Allen and Thurber Sidehammer (of pepperbox fame) was originally made 1840s-1860. Similarly, the Mowrey reproduction has a brass frame and trigger guard, heavy semi-Swiss brass butt plate, walnut stock and forearm and a 32” octagon barrel measuring an inch at the muzzle. Sights consist of a buckhorn with elevator bar rear with a blade front. It is also fitted with a single trigger with crisp pull. The barrel is simply marked “50 Mowrey Olney, Texas.” This one seems to have seen little if any use and is in top condition overall. These are really great looking American made muzzle loading percussion rifles that don’t often show up for sale!
