Offered for sale is one all matching, including wedge, Colt 4" Pocket '49 with the scarce iron backstrap and triggerguard. This 5 shot 31 caliber has a serial #185901, which places it with a 1860 date of manufacture. I made an inquiry to Colt Archive Properties, LLC as to the availability of a factory letter. The reply was "Unfortunately, we do not have a record for this particular gun. Based on the serial number, it must have shipped very shortly prior to where our records begin circ 1861". Cylinder scene is very good. Researching this Colt '49 Pocket, the reference book Colt's Pocket '49 by Jordan/Watt was used. According to the authors, about 20,000 Hartford address Pockets were made over a 2.5 year period beginning in 1860. Of the 20,000 production estimate, 1200 are estimated to be the iron backstrap/triggerguard variation. The revolver has a brown patina over all metal surfaces with about 40% of the original varnish on the walnut stocks. Note, the left trigger guard screw is most likely a replacement. There is just a trace amount of original silver left on the backstrap apron. The serial number on base of grip, the first digit "1" can be seen, as well as the last 2 digits of the serial number "01". They are best under a hand lens. Sales only to lower 48 states USA. No sales to HI, or Alaska. No international sales.
