Description:
Here is a very nice Savage Model 99R in caliber .300 Savage. It was manufactured in 1953. The lever boss code is "E". It is the "Heavy Rifle" model with Col. Townsend Whelen's designed stock and beavertail forearm. Lever safety. It was upgraded sometime in its past to the Model RS features with the addition of a correct Redfield No. 70LH receiver sight, Lyman No. 31 gold bead front sight, and Michaels sling swivels. A Williams Twilight aperture is fitted for visibility in dark timber and a dovetail blank is in the barrel sight slot. Extra apertures and the original Redfield sight box will be included.
The original steel buttplate is there, the stock has not been cut nor had a rubber pad installed. No cracks to the stock at the rear receiver which is a common fault. Factory D&T for a scope. Minor scuffs to the stock, very minor wear to the checkering. Bluing is better than 97%, with a tiny scratch on the lower right side of the receiver. Does not have the usual blue wear to the bottom of the receiver from carrying.The rotor is case hardened. Bright, clean, sharp bore. Original finish to the metal and wood, this is definitely not a gray rat !
