This mold type is described on page 129 in Rapley's "Colt Accoutrements 1834-1911 book. (The author refers to this mold type as M#22.) This 36 caliber mold is for a late First Model and early Second Model 1851 Navy. The mold is of the straight leg varity and is hinged through the forward section of the spru-cutter and both blocks. The spruce cutter is of the rounded form. The "COLT'S PATENT" legend is found across the face of the right block and a small letter "R" is visable below the legend. This letter "R" was stamped by an in-house inspector. This mold has the round ball nearest the hinge, and the heeled pointed conical. The locating pin is in the right block which is correct for First model and early Second model 1851 Colt Navies. Mold was purchased at the Oct 2009 Colt Collectors Show from a well known dealer in percussion Colts with emphasis on 1851 Navies. This dealer told me it was the only 1st Model Navy mold he has had in 25 years. No International sales, Lower 48 USA only. SOLD |
