Description:
This is a very attractive and formidable looking sword that measures 26 3/4" overall with a 22", slightly curved, single-edged blade having a large “hatchet" style tip and serrated back edge. The steel has an overall mottled gray patina with specks of freckling along the length of the blade as well as some spotty surface oxidation at the tip. The blade is sparsely marked but does have a “(crown)/1" military proof on the obverse forte and the maker's name on the back edge where it meets the hilt, “S&J DAWES". The cast brass hilt has a German style hilt with large, tombstone langets, single forward swept quillon, reverse “P" guard, and elongated lion's head pommel. The brass has a dark ochre patina throughout with some scattered small impact marks and blemishes but is still attractive and in good shape. The sword does not have a scabbard and is in very good condition overall.
