Description:
Holland & Holland .577 Double Rifle factory contract engraved by Winston Churchill. This is the only H&H firearm of any type that Churchill engraved during his entire 40+ year engraving career. Special ordered with full cooperation from the heads of H&H, the rifle was ordered in the white in 1986 and delivered to Winston Churchill in May, 1989. Because of its massive size, Winston spent over 3 years engraving this double rifle totaling nearly 2,500 hours in the process. Per the client's wishes, the rifle was dedicated to the African elephant. Superb, realistic bulino game scenes of elephant are evident on each lock plate and the underside of the action. In addition, the trigger guard also features another bull elephant as well as a superbly sculpted elephant on the hinged, grip cap. All scenes are surrounded by superbly executed fine English scroll with touches of deep sculpted arabesque scroll on the recoil fences, action sides, top lever, and rear of quarter rib. The realism of this engraving must be seen to be appreciated---a typical characteristic of all of Churchill's engraving. A unique opportunity to own one of the truly finest quality H&H double rifles in existence. It remains unfired in its elephant hide case with ivory accessories. Irreplaceable at any price.
