Description:
This is a WW1 production U.S. Army Colt New Service Model 1917 revolver in .45ACP.  The Model 1917 revolver was put into production during WW1 in 1917 as a supplement to the U.S. Military's standard issue Model 1911 .45 ACP automatic pistol. There simply were not enough 1911's in inventory or in production to arm the rapidly expanding A.E.F. forces during World War One. The Model 1917 revolver was manufactured by both Smith and Wesson and the Colt during WW1, with Colt being the primary supplier. This particular example was built in 1918, and is in all-original condition with about 70% of the bluing remaining. The cylinder shows the typical minor handling marks and drag line one can expect from a military issued revolver. The action is tight on this gun and is in perfect time The barrel has strong lands and grooves throughout the bore with a little frosting throughout. The Walnut grips on this gun appear to be post-war aftermarket replacements. This Model 1917 comes complete with an unmarked U.S.G.I. style holster. The leather is still supple with a rich tan color throughout showing only minor surface wear in places. All of the original stitching is intact and tight with the original hardware still intact.
