AN UNUSUAL SHILOH SHARPS, BIG TIMBER, MONTANA MADE 1874 MONTANA ROUGHRIDER MODEL, .45-70 CALIBER, WITH NO-LONGER OFFERED FRENCH GREY FINISH. This rifle with 34” standard weight octagon barrel sports a pistol grip stock with slightly curved steel military butt plate. It is fitted with double set triggers, a full buckhorn Lawrence ladder rear sight, standard blade front sight plus an extra semi-buckhorn rear sight (these are listed in their catalog at $65). The French Grey finish is now only offered on custom engraved rifles and is now a rarity as a custom order on a standard rifle. This attractive finish is applied to the butt plate, lever, hammer and receiver- all the parts that are normally case hardened. The walnut is a higher grade than standard and shows some light fiddleback through the straight grain. This is more apparent as the light hits it from different angles making for a very nicely figured piece of walnut. Weighs right at 11 lbs. Probably made around 2004, this one appears unused inside and out.
