BRASS Antique WILKINSON Percussion Belt PISTOL

Circa 1815 Flintlock Updated to Percussion

Here we present an antique James Wilkinson percussion pistol what was converted from flintlock to percussion sometime near the middle of the 19th century after originally being manufactured circa 1815. In the late 1700s, Wilkinson was the foreman and general manager (and son-in-law) to Henry Nock, who was one of the finest and most influential arms makers of his time, being especially noteworthy for his “Nock Gun”. This gun, made circa 1780, was a seven barreled volley gun which Nock sold 500 to the British military at a cost of £13 each.

Upon his death in 1804, Lock left his entire business to Wilkinson, who managed not only the primary business at Ludgate Hill, but many other workshops scattered around London. History would show that James Wilkinson every bit the equal to Henry Nock. Wilkinson would grow the reputation of the business with many of his fine sporting gun being the envy of sportsman and royalty alike. Interestingly, James Wilkinson’s legacy lives on today with his namesake company, Wilkinson Sword.
