Description:
The Winchester Model 72/72A was made from 1938 to 1959, with over 161,000 manufactured. The rifles were fitted with a 25 inch tapered barrel, 2/3 length tube magazine, frame mounted aperture sight (Target Model) or open rear sight, bead front sight with (Target Model) or without sight hood, grooved (72A Models of later manufacture) or non grooved receiver, later manufactured guns had chrome finished bolts and trigger guards, and were chambered in either .22 Short (Gallery Models) or.22 LR. The rifles were not serial numbered except for those that were exported (serial number usually stamped on the left side of the barrel). This Model 72A Target Model is as described, has a grooved receiver, aperture rear sight, hooded front sight, chrome plated bolt and trigger guard, and is chambered in .22 LR. It is in excellent original condition, appearing to having been test fired only. It retains 99%+ of its original blue finish, the bolt retains all of its original chrome finish, and the trigger guard retains 70% of its original chrome finish, with most loss due to rubbing of the bottom of the guard on the cardboard box inserts/spacers. The bore looks as new and the action functions the same. The stock is in very fine cndition, retaining 99% of its original finish, with assorted handling marks/pressure dents. Comes with its original box (which is in excllent condition), manual, and safety pamphlet. One of Winchesters most desirable bolt action 22's.
