Description:
This is really a beautiful all-original Ruger Model 77/22 .22 caliber rifle complete with a period Leupold VX 3-9 Compact scope on factory Ruger rings.  This vintage Ruger 77/22 is a first year production rifle, made in 1984.  Long considered the finest .22 caliber bolt-action rifle that Ruger ever made, the Model 77/22 has a big-game rifle feel and exceptional fit and finish for a production rifle.  The Ruger 77/22 was a huge success for the firm, remaining in production from 1984 until 2016 when it was finally discontinued.  The 77/22 is well-known with shooters and hunters alike for it's excellent accuracy, supreme reliability, and excellent build quality, particularly in the earlier production guns like this one.  This particular example is serial number 700-13473 and it has obviously been very well cared-for and shot very little since leaving the factory.  It features a beautiful high-gloss blue factory finish on all of the metal, a polished bright bolt body with a gloss blued handle and rear assembly, a 20" inch "sporter" profiled barrel with factory iron sights, Ruger's integral scope bases built into in the receiver, a 3-position bolt-mounted safety, an adjustable target trigger, a ten round rotary magazine(shared with the 10/22 Model), and a checkered American Walnut stock with a factory pistol grip cap, buttplate, and sling swivel studs.   The factory finishes on this rifle are all in beautiful condition, with the high-gloss blue rating 98%.  You have to look very closely and carefully to find anything worthy of an 2% cumulative deduction.  The polished bright bolt body is free from any staining or corrosion and shows only some very light runner marks from being worked.  The bore is mirror-bright and pristine.  The rifling still looks brand-new with sharp lands and grooves and there are no visible imperfections or wear.  The original American Walnut stock is beautiful and free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/damage.  Outside of a few tiny handling/storage marks in the wood it is like-new.  The checkered panels on the wrist and forearm are crisp and clean, free from any soiling or wear.  The factory buttplate and pistol grip cap are in excellent condition, and both pieces are perfectly and precisely fit to the wood.  The action on this 77/22 is extremely slick and very precise, with the bolt turning into battery smoothly and cycling with no slop or wasted motion.  The trigger on this Ruger really deserves special mention as one of the finest factory triggers we have felt on a .22 caliber rifle.  It breaks like a thin glass rod with a VERY light pull.  There is no grit, slop, or excessive travel; it really is as good as it gets for a production rifle and rivals many of the aftermarket and custom triggers out there.  This rifle is in perfect working order, 100% every bit as good as the day it left the factory 36 years ago.  As mentioned earlier, this Ruger comes complete with a vintage gloss black Leupold 3 to 9 power compact VX scope mounted in gloss blue 1" inch Ruger rings.  It features a standard duplex reticle, and the optics are crystal clear and bright.  There is no delamination or damage of any kind on the glass and all of the adjustments are in perfect working order, including the eyepiece focus, the power selecting ring, and both the windage and elevation adjustments.  We have no doubt that this package will drive tacks and shoot lights-out with the right ammunition.  If you have been looking for a .22 caliber rifle to invest in that you can really be proud of no matter where you take it, this 1st year production Ruger 77/22 would be a superb choice.
