Description:
ROBBINS, KENDALL, & LAWRENCE .58 Caliber Model 1841 “MISSISSIPPI” Rifle

Civil War Rifle Musket from 1852!

Here we present an antique Smooth Bore Model 1841 “Mississippi” Rifle, made in 1852 by Robbins, Kendall & Lawrence of Windsor, Vermont as part of a 10,000 rifle contract with the Ordnance Department. The Model 1841 Rifle gained fame as the weapon used with distinction by the 1st Mississippi Rifles led by Col. Jefferson Davis at the Battle of Buena Vista during the Mexican War, thus the moniker “Mississippi Rifle”. It was widely issued to both regular Army and state militia units before the Civil War and used throughout by both the North and South.
“US” is marked on the top of the butt plate. The rear of the lock is marked “WINDSOR, VT/1852”. The front of the lock is clearly marked “ROBBINS&/LAWRENCE/U.S.” This piece was retrofitted for use with a saber bayonet. These were highly refined muskets that were the best of their type. They stand out from others with their brass hardware, including the generous patch box on the right side of the butt stock!

The overall condition is good. The action functions properly. The bore is dark and rough with some rifling still visible. The stock shows some loss behind the lock and some minor repairs throughout. A neat piece of history!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 33 inches.

Caliber: .58

Overall condition as seen in photos.
