A antique Charles Daly drilling by J.P. Sauer and Son.
Serial number 31860 indicates manufacture in 1886 or 1887, depending on how you read the year-of-production table.
The metal is mostly smooth and the breech face is not pitted. The fine details of the engraving are visible.
The barrels are not present but the receiver is complete and appears to be in working order. Both triggers function as expected. All three firing pins are intact and activate with the triggers. The top lever moves left to select the rifle, which the front trigger fires.
The side lever moves smoothly.
The bushings for the shotgun firing pins unscrew. They are not stuck.
The screw for the right hammer is a replacement, and appears quite old.
The stock looks solid. I see no cracks or splits. There's numerous minor dents on the butt but nothing gouged. I think most of these could be raised. The grip has a few deeper dents on the right side that may not be amenable raising. The checkering is worn smooth and filled with varnish.
The peep sight folds into the tang and the elevation screw turns normally.
The buttplate is intact. I see no cracks and no chips on the edges. The lower screw is very good. The upper screw is poor. But both have decent slots and should be removable. The length of pull to the front trigger is 13-3/4".
Note that some of the brown/orange color seen on the metal is dried oil, not discoloration.
