WILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA Double Rifle by JOHN TROUT Antique .45 Caliber
Over/Under
Here we present an antique John Trout Over/Under Percussion Double Rifle, manufactured circa the mid-19th Century. Colonel John Trout was a gunmaker in Williamsport, Pennsylvania in the 1850s through the 1870s. This Double Rifle features superposed barrels in .45 caliber. Each barrel has its own hammer, trigger, and ramrod for loading. There are two ramrods, one on each side of the barrels. There is a brass patchbox and furniture along with double set triggers. There is a German silver eagle inlay on the left cheek piece. This is a very solidly built rifle that leaves no wonder how it could have weathered the sands of time to get here in such great shape.
The overall condition is good. The action on the right functions, but the hammer on the left will not stay cocked. The bore is good with nice rifling. “JOHN TROUT/Wms PORT P.A.” is marked on the top of the barrel. The stock has been repaired around the wrist. A fantastic rifle for the Frontier!
