CIVIL WAR ERA American Double Action Single Shot Pistol
Here we present an antique Allen & Thurber Ring Trigger Double Action Single Shot pistol. This percussion pocket pistol was a popular pistol that was produced in Worcester, Massachusetts between 1856 and 1865. Ethan Allen was already a prolific inventor and successful businessman when he came up with this design. It’s a .36 caliber pistol with a revolving screw off fluted barrel and has factory engravings in a floral motif executed on both sides of the frame. Made from 1830-1865, Allen & Thurber’s pistols, including their pepperbox, enjoyed even greater popularity than Sam Colt’s first pistol. The history that these pistols enjoyed over the years is astounding: the Seminole Wars, Gold Rush, Mexican War and American Civil War. These guns are true relics of American history.
The overall condition is fair. The action does not function. The bore is good. With a floral engraved frame, and the grips remaining in good shape, this example would be a great piece to collect!
