Description:
The Snider/Zulu conversion shotgun started out as the French 1857 military musket. As cartridge firearms evolved in the mid 1800s, the French retired their percussion muckets or converted them to cartridge firearms through the adoption of the Snider pivoting breech system. Many of the 1857 muskets were purchased by a Belgian firm and converted to shotguns in about 1867. The Zulu name comes from the culmination of the Zulu war in Africa which followed the the Constitution Act of 1867. This shotgun is still operable however, it should be checked by a qualified gunsmith and only shot with blackpowder equivalent loads. 12 Gauge
