Description:
SMITH & WESSON First Model LADYSMITH .22 Rimfire Double Action C&R Revolver

PROVENANCE: The Gerald Klaz Collection

Here we present a Smith & Wesson Model Ladysmith Revolver in .22 Rimfire Long (.22 S&W), made circa 1902-06 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This model is significant as it was designed by Daniel B. Wesson himself and because it was the first .22 rimfire since the No. 1 Third Issue’s production ended two decades previously. Like the No. 1, the Ladysmith features 7 shots of .22 rimfire. Unlike the No. 1, the Ladysmith features a swingout cylinder with a star ejector as well as a double action trigger. Though tiny, it features a very usable steel frame and it is no wonder that ladies would have used this revolver for self-defense in the years leading up to the Roaring Twenties. S&W still uses this nomenclature in their marketing of small, concealable revolvers today!

This from the collection of Dr. Gerald Klaz. The Klaz Collection has been carefully curated for over half a century and the result is arguably the best of the best. Other items from his illustrious collection can still be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The overall condition is good. The action does not function properly, although some individual parts are strong. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The correct serial number “4085” is stamped on the bottom of the grips. This example is a nice little Ladysmith revolver that would be a nice supplement to any early 20th century collection. A scarce and highly collectible Smith & Wesson Revolver!
