Description:
Scarce FRENCH EMPIRE Antique MUTZIG ARSENAL Model 1816 Flintlock Musket

Flintlock Musket with BAYONET!

Here we present an antique French Model 1816 Mutzig Arsenal Musket, made circa the early 1820s.

The First French Empire (officially the French Empire) was the empire of Napoleon Bonaparte and the dominant power in much of continental Europe at the beginning of the 19th century. A series of wars, known collectively as the Napoleonic Wars, extended French influence to Western Europe and into Poland. At its height in 1812, the French Empire had 130 departments, ruled over 70 million subjects. It maintained an extensive military presence in Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Duchy of Warsaw, and counted Prussia and Austria as nominal allies. This musket was standard issue in the years following the Napoleonic Wars.

“M.re TMP. Ale DE MUTZIG” is engraved on the lock. “1853” was stamped onto the right buttstock sometime after production. The Model 1816 is a variant of the Charleville musket, which was the standard French infantry musket used throughout the 18th and 19th century. It began production in 1717 and was last produced during the 1840s.
