Description:
We just got in this extremely rare Colt from the estate. This is an original Pre-War "United States Property" marked Colt Model 1911 of US Navy. They only produced 15,037 "Navy" marked contract Colts from 1911 to 1914. This example was built in 1913. What makes this particular Colt even more interesting is that at some point during it's life someone had it professionally and very beautifully period correct engraved by the engraver Valenya out of California. The parts appear to all be correct and original with the original lanyard loop military magazine. Has a gorgeous set of real elephant ivory grips that have developed a beautiful patina with some aging and cosmetic lines. Comes with a very nice Remy Martin wooden case with an original military issued full box of Western Cartridge Company .45 ACP ammunition that is dated 1954 on the casings. This pistol does have some light cosmetic pitting in the metal from before it was engraved and reblued. But what you have to remember about these "Navy" model 1911 pistols is that they were subjected to very harsh enviroments on the naval ships and most of them were rusted beyond repair or nearly unsalvagable. This particular 1911 is in great shape considering that. This pistol has a very nice and tight action that has very little play in the slide and feels better than many new Colt's that I have handled. The bore is in great shape for the age and show crisp visible rifling with only minor pitting. This is still a very excellent working and shooting pistol. See our pictures of this once in a lifetime Navy Colt 1911 and if you have any questions whatsoever please don't hesitate to call Justin or Ben at Olde West (530)243-8334.
