Description:
Serial #2719, .442 RF, 2 1/2" octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that some mild freckling within the grooves. This is a superbly crafted and finished revolver, marked “BEATTIE & SON / 205 REGENT St. LONDON" along the topstrap, that was obviously based on the “sheath-trigger" designs of William Tranter, but does not conform to any known type. The barrel, cylinder pin (with unusual “tombstone" finial), cylinder, loading gate, and hammer all retain 85-90% of the original bright blue finish with some gray fading along the edges and projections, as well as the front face of the cylinder. The brass frame, which is handsomely engraved with floral scrollwork, retains a commensurate amount of the original silver plate finish that has tarnished to an attractive blue-black patina, except under the loading gate where it remains fairly bright. The checkered walnut grips are in very good shape, but exhibit moderate wear and flattening of the points on either side. The action is fully functional, and the lock-up is tight. This is a superb, large frame British pocket revolver, and rates excellent overall. Antique
