Description:

U.S. Model 1877 trapdoor carbine. Manufactured circa 1878. This carbine, serial number 87616, has the standard 22” round .45-70 caliber barrel with excellent bore. It correctly has a narrow receiver, short wrist stock, low arch breechblock, and butt stock compartment for a three-piece cleaning rod (not present). Metal is fine with most of its finish which is turning an even blue/brown. Stock, which has been sanded, is nice looking but has no cartouche or final inspection stamp remaining. Model 1873 rear sight is graduated to 1200 yards. Barrel is marked “V”/ “P”/ eagle. Breechblock is stamped “US/ model/ 1873”. The lock has the standard “US/ Springfield” with the eagle to the left. Buttplate tang is stamped “US”. The sling ring bar and ring are present. Action functions correctly.
