British military use of Webley revolvers began in the late-19th Century. Especially favored in the early-20th Century were those chambered for the .455 caliber cartridges. However, at the end of the Great War, it was decided a smaller, more manageable revolver and cartridge combination were desirable, so Webley and the government settled on the .38 S&W cartridge and designed a much smaller 6-shot, top-break revolver to shoot it. This was to be much friendlier as far as recoil and much smaller and lighter than its predecessor in .455, though debatably, not as lethal. Various British police forces, including colonial police forces used these revolvers through the late-20th Century, notably both Hong Kong and Singapore Police. The overall condition is fine. The original finish is 98% intact. The markings are clear and legible. The trademarked grips are in great shape. The bore is excellent, bright and shiny with strong rifling. The action is excellent.
