WWI Dated Imperial German P.08 Luger Pistol
World War I Dated “1918”
Here we present a World War I-Dated DWM Luger Model 1914 Imperial German Military Pistol, made in 1918 in Berlin, Germany. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical and productive fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars.
The toggle is marked with the “DWM” initials intertwined. The right side of the frame bears German military acceptance and proof marks. Serial numbers are marked on virtually every part as was the military style.
The overall condition is near fine. This pistol appears to have been nicely refinished (possibly by an arsenal) and then used some more. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match throughout, with the exception of the WWII marked magazine and the unnumbered grips. The bore is clean and well-rifled with a frosted appearance. The grips show use with a pressure mark on the right panel and a chip on the left panel under the safety lever. The action on this pistol is excellent.
