Description:
CASED Colt 1883 Double Barrel SHOTGUN 12 Gauge w 1883 Morgan SILVER DOLLAR

Scarce ENGRAVED Shotgun Made in 1887 with Damascus Barrels!

Here we present an antique Colt Model 1883 Hammerless Double Barrel Shotgun, manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut in 1887. The Model 1883 was made from 1883 to 1895, with approximately 7,360 manufactured. These double barrel shotguns were often custom made to order and fitted with Damascus barrels from 28 to 32 inches in length.
According to early sources, “The Hammerless Model 1883 ranks among the best grade doubles produced in the entire American arms trade. The limited number completed and the great pains devoted to handling specific orders from often fussy shooters means that a considerable degree of quality and variety is evident in the Model 1883 series.”
The barrel address is “COLT’S PT F A MFG CO HARTFORD CT USA”. The underside of the frame is marked “PATENTED/AUG.22 SEPT.19 1882”.

The overall condition is nearing fine. The action is strong and tight. The bore is reflective and smooth. The finish on the wood still shines. The Damascus barrels have good pattern with a light brown patina. The walnut takedown case has a “1883” dated Morgan silver dollar set in the case lid. The number “2438” is engraved on the trigger guard. The manufacturer address is atop the barrel. The case includes shooting accessories, brass shells, and a cleaning rod. Here is an absolutely stunning set to put on display!
