CIVIL WAR Antique ROBBINS & LAWRENCE Contract Model 1841 Mississippi Rifle
1850 Dated Antebellum US Infantry Musket
Here we present an antique Smooth Bore Model 1841 “Mississippi” Rifle, made in 1850 by Robins & Lawrence of Windsor, Vermont as part of a 10,000 rifle contract with eh Ordnance Department. The Model 1841 Rifle gained fame as the weapon used with distinction by the 1st Mississippi Rifles led by Col. Jefferson Davis at the Battle of Buena Vista during the Mexican War and was widely issued to both regular Army and state militia units before the Civil War.
The rear of the lock is marked “WINDSOR, VT/1850”. The front of the lock is marked “ROBBINS/&/LAWRENCE/U.S.”.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in good shape. It has been lightly refinished. The bore has been bored smooth and is dark. The action on this rifle is strong. The ramrod is absent. An attractive US infantry arm
