CIVIL WAR U.S. MODEL 1861 PERCUSSION .58 CAL. “CUT-DOWN” RIFLE-MUSKET. Barrel shortened to 39” and forend and barrel bands removed. Rear sight missing. Many were so altered during the last part of the war by the Confederates for mounted use as well by retreating infantry who wanted to lighten the load. Heavily used with dark patina on metal and wood and lock markings worn and no longer visible. Wood with old nicks and scratches as well as the letter “H” carved on the right side of the butt. Colorful Civil War display rifle-musket at a reasonable price.
