LATE 1700s Antique KETLAND & Co. BRASS BARELED FLINTLOCK Pistol
Turn of the Century Officer’s Flintlock Belt Pistol!
Here we present an antique W. Ketland & Co. marked Flintlock Pistol, made circa the late 1700s to early 1800s in turn of the century England. Ketland & Co. operated in Birmingham, England, from the late 1700s and to the early 1800s to become one of the most prominent and active British makers of the day. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century.
The lock plate is marked "W. KETLAND/& Co" ahead of the hammer. Light engravings are present throughout. The left rear side of the barrel is stamped with clear proof marks. Engravings and “LONDON” can be seen atop the barrel.
The overall condition is very good. The action functions properly. The bore is smooth. The stock is in great shape. A wonderful example of a British flintlock from some epic times in world history!
