This IBM Carbine Ser No. 3862XXX was mfg abt 8/43 by International Business Machines who was the last mfg to get into Carbine production..
They were however able to get up to speed within 30days and actually in that time get carbines out the door. This IBM Carbine is typical of all IBM Carbines
and made up of parts from several vendors & manufacturer's.
The gun's bluing is consistant throughout - for having so many suppliers as IBM's had the QC was very tight. The receiver was mfg by A-O (Auto Ordnance)
These were mixed throughout all of IBM's production. (My info Source is "R.C.Larson's - M-1 Carbine 2nd Edition). The receiver is an "AO" T- 2 w/wide tang, internal spg tube, square mill cut and 2 dismount notches, T-3 Retaining lug.
The stock is a high wood and they were used mostly through serial number 3.86 million. Then the transition to low wood began. The stock has the correct oval cut & is excellent w/no cracks dings or repairs. It has the correct cartouche on the R - Side of the stock and the letters "BR-B" (Milton Bradley Co.) in the sling well.
The handguard is a matching piece w/2 holes and the letters "BR-B" on the underside. There are 2 very light handling marks on the L-Side by the sling (abt 3/16" ea).
