The basic rifle design came from Mauser. Other companies in Germany produced it from 1934 until the introduction of the model KKW in 1939/40. The rifle was designed to simulate the handling qualities of the K98k for trainees. These rifles were purchased by SA units and other Government Agencies, such as the police, for training use. This is a top example and still has the sling and the nearly-impossible-to-find cleaning rod. However, it is missing the handguard retaining ring that would be located just in front of the rear sight. It is certainly one of the most desirable of the Pre-WW2 training rifles that was used to teach marksmanship to Hitlers' rapidly expanding army.
