Description:
Here is a great find for a vintage military rifle collector! This is a very clean original Siamese Mauser Type 46/66 chambered in 8X52mm Siam. Overall this is a very honest rifle with most everything intact. It is missing the cleaning rod but it does have the sliding dust cover and butt compartment sliding door that both work very well and slide freely. The Siamese military decided to upgrade from the 8x50mm cartridge in 1923 and you can tell that this rifle was rechambered at the factory by looking at the sides of the rear sight. The numerals are cut off where they ground down the sight which was done on all of these rifles when they were rechambered. The barrel is 29 inches and has a very clean bore with deep rifling and very minimal wear. The stock has a crack that runs from the upper tang and wraps down near the trigger guard but it is still in sound condition and could have possibly been repaired at some point. Overall, the stock looks period correct and shows a beautiful patina. The receiver and rear sight both have all of their correct markings / proof marks which are clear and easy to read. The metal is in great condition and the finish is 75% or better. Length of pull to the factory metal butt plate is about 13". The action is nice, smooth, and works excellent! This is just a great example of a well taken care of military rifle that has seen some actual use in the field.
