Description:
This is a First Model 1916 Newton rifle in caliber 256 Newton. It has the serial number 1826 on the bolt, bolt sleeve, receiver, grip cap and wood under it, stock, trigger guard, floor plate and tang. The serrated butt plate, which is a rare option is numbered 552. The plate is a good fit although not original to this rifle. The stock has a hairline crack just ahead of the magazine. Not unusual for this model. The stock finish is very good+ with just a few shallow handling marks. The receiver is about 98% blue, the barrel 97%, the floor plate and trigger guard 90% and the grip cap about 90% with some rough spots on the finish. The Lyman 48 receiver sight is mounted on the left side. It is a 3rd variation made between 1947 and 1974. No wood needs to be removed to mount this sight. The rear sight is a folding leaf (to accommodate the receiver sight) on the original barrel band. The front sight is an ivory bead which makes a clear sight picture with the receiver sight. The rifle has non original sling swivels. The double set triggers work well and the bore is very good+. Shipping charges for this rifle are $48.
