Description:
.45-70 caliber, 24" barrel, bolt action with tubular magazine located underneath.  Walnut stock bearing the U.S. inspector's cartouche on the left wrist.  "U.S.I.D." appears on the left side of the receiver and the  "H.N."  for Henry Nettleton is found on the barrel and receiver.   In superb original  condition retaining nearly all of the barrel blue.  The hammer still has most of the bright case colors remaining.  Minty bore and excellent wood with a crisp inspector's cartouche.   It is estimated that only 600-800 of these were purchased by the U.S. Interior Dept. for the Bureau of Indian Affairs an issued to the Reservation Indian Police.   With an extremely low survival rate and almost always found in relic condition.   This may be one of the best examples known.
