Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: This is a very nice, lightly-used Smith & Wesson Model 629-1 with a 6" inch barrel manufactured in 1988. It has obviously been well cared-for over the years as it remains in excellent condition overall. The Model 629 revolver was introduced by Smith & Wesson in 1979 as an all-stainless steel version of the .44 Magnum Model 29. Built on the firm's large square-butt N-frame, the double-action/single-action Model 629 featured a satin stainless steel finish, a 6-shot fluted cylinder, adjustable target-style sights with a red ramped front sight and micro-click rear, factory Goncalo Alves checkered target grips, and was offered in a 4", 5", 6", or 8 & 3/8ths" barrel (pinned from 1979 to 1982). The Model 629 quickly proved to be every bit as good as the original blued Model 29 with the added benefit of being low-maintenance and nearly impervious to bad weather. Today these vintage Model 629's are sought-after by shooters, hunters, and collectors alike as one of Smith & Wesson's "flagship" magnum revolvers. This particular example is serial number "AYD3134" manufactured in 1988 and fit with a 6" inch barrel, a target hammer, and a smooth target trigger. As mentioned previously, it is in excellent condition overall both inside and out. The factory satin stainless steel is clean, bright, and handsome, showing only some very minor handling marks and a faint drag-line around the cylinder. The stain gray finish on target hammer and smooth target trigger is in like-new condition with no staining or defects. The bore in this Smith is mirror-bright and pristine, with no visible imperfections and sharp lands and grooves still showing in the rifling. The 6 chambers in the cylinder are equally as clean and free from damage. The factory checkered Goncalo Alves Target Grips are in great shape overall and are very attractive. Both grips have crisp checkering and nice figure/color in them. They are both nice and tight to the gun with no wiggle, and both have intact S&W Medallions. The factory hand-tuned action on this Model 629-1 has to be felt to truly be appreciated. It is extremely smooth, slick, and perfectly "in time" whether it is worked very fast or very slow, double-action or single-action. At full-lock the cylinder locks up nice and tight, and the trigger breaks nicely with a light pull, particularly in single-action operation. All of the controls on this Smith are in perfect working order, including the rear sight adjustments. We have no doubt that this Model 629-1 will shoot just as accurately and reliably as the day it left the factory 32 plus years ago. If you have been looking for a .44 Magnum revolver for your collection that will be an excellent long-term investment and excellent shooter, this 1988-production Model 629-1 would be a superb choice.
