PRE- WW2 MARINE CORPS USMC 1ST ISSUE SPRINGFIELD M1 OR M-1 GARAND RIFLE. Serial number 3423 in the middle of the Marines first issue serial range 3000-4000 virtually all of which were shipped to the Marines prior to the outbreak of the war. Many are recorded in Springfield Armory records as returned for “re-inspection” in 1939-1940 and then shipped back to the Marine Corps in San Diego. See “SPRINGFIELD RESEARCH SERVICE, VOL. 2, PP. 135-8. Original with replaced parts at time of re-inspection including the gas cylinder, stock and butt plate. Later handguard and other minor parts. Barrel date stamped “S-A-12-47”. Working order and excellent bore. Original sling.
