Flintlock to Percussion Double Barrel Fowling Gun
Here we present an antique Silver Inlaid French Double Barrel Percussion Side by Side Shotgun, made sometime in the early 19th Century in France with a period conversion when the more reliable percussion system was introduced. It features dual sidelock hammers and beautiful cast and engraved hardware such as the large and ornate trigger guard and butt plate. The stock also has beautiful grain and has a generous cheek rest carved into the left side for a right-hander. This would have been a fantastic and high-class gun for fowl or field hunting, game birds and fur bearers. A fabulous example of old world craftsmanship!
The overall condition is Very Good. The action is strong. The bore is dark and dusty with age. The barrels begin octagonally but transition smoothly to round. The light engravings and silver inlays make this a handsome piece for display!
