BRACE of WHEELER FLINTLOCK Belt Pistols Antique
British Brass Barreled .60 Caliber Pistols
Here we present a Matched Pair of Brass Barreled Wheeler Flintlock Pistols made circa 1800 in London, England. This pair of pistols has "WHEELER" on the right side of the lock along with some light engraving accents throughout. The left sides of the barrels have pairs of crown and cross scepter proofmarks. Robert Wheeler had a shop in London beginning around 1767. The firm was renamed Robert Wheeler & Son in 1813 and remained active until 1830. Wheeler is known to have produced an array of pistols and long guns for government contracts as well as export. The pistols feature polished brass barrels and walnut grips with brass buttcaps which have nice engraving. These would have found themselves on a belt when carried and would have made the user a force to be reckoned with whether defending body or honor.
The overall condition is fine. The iron parts have an aged patina. The brass is bright. The markings are clear. The stocks are in great shape, smooth and solid. The bores are smooth and clean with a bit of verdigris. The actions are excellent.
