Smith and Wesson "RARE" Defense Supply Corp. Order. Mdl. M&P 1905 Fourth Change, Cal .38. Plus two factory letters.
Very scarce and awesome condition. This gun was shipped to the Defense Supply Corporation, a purchasing agency created by the Wartime Defense Supply Control Act, on May 5th 1942. The pistol was then sent it to the Hyde Windlass Co. of Bath, Maine, home of the destroyer maker Bath Iron Works and Shipyard (see attached factory letters). It was ordered without any U.S. property marks.
Its condition is awesome. It appears to have been in storage for the last 78 years and shows no sign of ever been fired. The original "black magic" black matte war time finish is pristine and is easily rate 99.9+%. The minute loss there is, is attributed to some very slight sharp edge silvering. Other than that, there is no indication anywhere that the gun has been fired. Not even a cylinder drag ring.
All parts match. The grips and grip screw are pristine while the cylinder face, force cone and recoil shield show no sign of use. The bore is pristine like the rest of the gun. Flawless, mirror bright with razor sharp rifling.
