Description:
A S&W 19 2.5" in the box.    Wow.
If only it had been stored properly....

Friend of ours grew up out West and in the 70s and early 80s he found himself employed as a "security agent of sorts".  He carried this daily for about 6 years but probably never really shot it as he was 6'-5" and about 275lbs at the time and didn't really need a firearm to convince you that you should be very careful and very polite around him and his employer.  But he really wasn't a Tough Guy so after he made his money he left the job, married a former showgirl and moved to the St Louis area in the 1980s.  And apparently when he got there he put the gun back the box and there it stayed.
And stayed.
And stayed.

Well he passed away a couple years ago and his widow passed it along to one of our group members.   She didn't know much about it and didn't even recall her husband ever getting it out or doing anything with it.

So this thing sat in the box for about 30 years.   But not in a climate controlled safe.   Or even wrapped in oil paper.   Or even cleaned.    Which explains why the finish on the left side is a mess .  Not the whole gun.   Actually MOST of this gun is great - no issues at all.   But the left side looks pretty rough.  It's not rust.  But a lot of the blue finish is gone on part of the cylinder and the left side of the top strap.

Grips are good.  Checkering on the left side feels very slightly worn down - probably just from being carried on his right hip and rubbing against his side all day and all night for a few years.

The M19-3 had the pinned barrel, recessed cylinders and hammer-mounted firing pin.  It was also the first of the model 19s to be offered with a 2.5" barrel  and it was pretty popular right from the start.   Unlike the model 65s and 13s which had 3" barrels, it has a shrouded ejector rod which adds some weight and balance to offset the kick of the .357.  They are a little heavier to carry -  but absolutely wonderful to shoot.

And if this wasn't scarred up from improper storage there's no way it'd be offered for sale.   But it is (at least for awhile - unless we change our minds).  And we have others in pristine shape so.... here ya go.  This one is available.    If you want a Classic and don't care much about the cosmetics or can have a buddy (or S&W) refinish it for you it's in great condition otherwise.  Good action.  Locks up tight.   Smooth trigger.  But ugly.
