Description:

This is a beautiful, all original Colt Model 1848 "BABY DRAGOON". It would be hard to find a better one!
serial #9504, .31 cal, 5'' octagon barrel with a bright near excellent bore. This is an extremely fine all-matching Baby Dragoon made in 1849. Matcing numbers are found on the frame, barrel, trigger guard, backstrap, backstrap channel, cylinder  and arbor. Also has the inspector's mark "T" ,for William Tuller, is found on the right trigger bolster.  The unknown inspector's mark "K" , is found on the bottom of the trigger guard. There is also the remnant of one safety pin that is properly placed in line with the serial number on the cylinder. The barrel retains about 92% original blue showing light wear on sharp edges.  some scattered tiny dings. The cylinder retains about 70% original blue with the balance  a  gray patina . "ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY"  on ttop barrel flat. The Texas Ranger and Indian fight on the cylinder is spectacular, fully intact and remarkably crisp. The frame is crisply-stamped in small lettering ''COLTS / PATENT'', the frame and hammer show strong case-hardened colors particularly along the back of the hammer and both sides of the  frame with the balance showing attractive smoky remnants of color and silvery patina. The trigger, wedge and a number of screw heads still show brilliant fire blue . The backstrap and triggerguard retain about 95% original silver finish showing a few areas of thinning and minor flaking to ocher brass and a few areas taking on a pleasant tarnish. The smooth one-piece walnut grip is pencil-numbered to the gun and remains in excellent condition retaining nearly 98% original varnish with just a little minor edge wear and a few scattered handling marks. The action still functions crisply with solid timing and lockup.
