Description:
RARE, Early American BOLT ACTION NEEDLEFIRE Rifle KLEIN Patent by FOSTER

Similar to the Prussian Dreyse Circa 1849!

Here we present a rare American antique Klein Patent Needlefire Rifle, manufactured circa the early 1849 in Taunton, Massachusetts. This turn bolt action is similar to the Dreyse Patent Needlefire guns which came out of Prussia circa 1840. The Dreyse itself was a clear developmental step in firearms technology that perfected breech-loading design for now going on 200 years. This rifle was patented by Charles Hartung, a Prussian immigrant to New York—who assigned the patent to John B. Klein in 1849. The rifles were built by George P. Foster, himself known for the making of the Porter turret rifle and later the Bristol Firearms Company along with General Ambrose E. Burnside, which produced one of the more prolific of the many available cavalry carbines during the American Civil War.

It is a relatively simple, single shot rifle with a one-piece stock and a hefty, fully octagonal barrel. Iron furniture, checkered wrist, crescent butt plate. Germanic style rear sight and a nice silver blade front sight. This is a fantastic piece of firearms developmental history that can be yours!

With a very low serial number (102) this is one of the first produced and not many were produced.

The overall condition is very good. The bore has strong rifling and the action is functional. The needle is intact as well.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 22 inches.

Caliber: .41

Overall condition as seen in photos.
